There are two main types of service:
| 1)Internet Connectivity: You are connected to the Internet backbone via Points of Presence (POPs). The line is terminated on Internet Gateway routers at these facilities. These devices have a 100Mb Ethernet connection to the Internet backbone. Equinox provide a managed router at your site to connect your LAN. | |
| 2)Point-to-Point Branch Office Connections: A leased line that creates a permanent connection between two branch offices. This may be used for data or voice services between the two sites |
Leased lines ranging from 64Kb up to 2Mb are available for purchase with the appropriate Internet bandwidth. We are happy to discuss larger capacity circuits up to 622Mb where required. The following will be supplied as standard with your line:
| X.21 interface. This is a standard interface for data connectivity. We will also discuss other interface options with you. | |
| 30 working days should be allowed for installation (of the first circuit on site) from the time of order. |
We supply the following routers, dependent on the type of leased line selected:
| Cisco 805 for circuits of 64k to 512k. | |
| 1601R for lines above 512 kbps up to 2048 kbps. | |
| 1603R & WIC-1T for any line up to 2048 kbps with ISDN backup. |
Please note: For circuits over 2Mbps, the router required will depend on the type of line. For example, an 8 Mbps line (E2) will require a Cisco 3620 with either an NM-4T or a HSSI. For lines of 34Mbps and over, please discuss your requirements with us so these can be accommodated.
Bandwidth
Internet Bandwidth is included with leased lines that are dedicated to Internet
access. This means that you can use bandwidth 24/7 at no extra cost.
Dedicated IP address
A fixed IP address will be assigned to the external interface of the router. We
can accommodate client requests for additional IP addresses.
DNS
The router will be configured with servers providing DNS service.
DHCP
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) will be enabled on the router unless
otherwise requested. This will assign IP addresses to PC's on your LAN.
Alarm Based Monitoring
We will proactively notify you of any problems through alarm based monitoring of
your managed router. The availability of the router interface will be checked by
pinging this every 5 minutes. This service is available only on routers that are
connected to our network.
Additional Services
Router Installation
Routers can be leased to you on a monthly basis. If you request a
managed router, we can configure, dispatch, monitor and support this. Typically
the router will be dispatched to the client's site and if requested, onsite
installation can be arranged. Any managed routers supplied will be password
protected and will require no user intervention.
We operate a return to base service for clients whose managed router is found to be faulty. An onsite same day replacement service can be taken as an additional option.
Tiered Support
Support staff will act as the first point of contact to
"troubleshoot" line problems and escalate where required. For extra
piece of mind why not take advantage of the following onsite hardware support
options.
